Research project subsidy for new faculty members

In conjunction with the NSTC’s research project, the subsidy amount shall be 30% of the first-year operating expenses.

1. Qualifications for the subsidy: Faculty members and research fellows who join NTU within one year may submit a research project subsidy application three months after successfully applying for research project subsidy from the NSTC.

Research equipment subsidy for new faculty members |
This grant category provides matching funds for research instruments for the recruitment of new faculty; ORD proposes funding matching the college’s grant, up to NT$500,000 per project. |
Qualifications for the subsidy: Newly recruited faculty members who started working at NTU in the past two years and have applied to the college/department for capital subsidies. |

Laurel Research Program |
The grant amount shall be based on the budget approved by the NSTC but shall not exceed NT$2 million. |
1. Conducted according to the “National Taiwan University Higher Education SPROUT Project Directives for Funding Academic Research Career Development Projects”.
2. Application criteria: Full-time teaching and research faculty within the establishment of NTU. Applicants awarded to scholars who have received the Excellent Young Scholar Research Project grant from the NSTC prior to or during 2025 shall submit the application by the deadline announced by ORD.

Sprout Research Projects |
The grant amount for a Sprout Research Project shall depend on the review results and budget set for each year. The funding duration per project may not exceed three years. |
1. Conducted according to the “National Taiwan University Higher Education SPROUT Project Directives for Funding Academic Research Career Development Projects”.
2. Application criteria: Full-time teaching and research faculty within the establishment of NTU who are under 45 years old and demonstrate considerable research potential.

Jade Research Program |
Please refer to the call for applications released annually by the Office of Research and Development. |
1. Conducted according to the “Call for Applications and Instructions for NTU Jade Research Program” (in Chinese).
2. Application criteria:
1. NTU full-time professors and research fellows:
(1) Professor/research fellow and associate professor/associate research fellow: The application for NSTC research projects of the current year has not been approved; however, applicants have received subsidies for NSTC research projects every year in the past three years.
(2) Assistant professors/Assistant research fellows: The application for NSTC research projects of the current year has not been approved; however, applicants have received subsidies for NSTC research projects for two years in the past three years.
2. Applications from those who have received approval for the Excellence in Key Advantages Program (core research team), the Academic Research Career Development Program (SPROUT research projects), and International Competitiveness Program for Talents in Key Fields at the time of application will not be accepted. Those who have filed applications for all these programs at the same time and have received approval for all must choose only one program.
3. Those who are implementing NSTC projects this year may not apply (NSTC projects conducted from January 1 to December 31).

Excellent Research Project |

It shall be in accordance with the contents of the research project.

International Cooperative Research Projects |
1. If a Type 1 research project jointly establishes a research center or laboratory with a renowned international institution, NTU may reach an agreement with the foreign institution to jointly fund the research center or laboratory.
2. In coordination with the NSTC’s funding for subsidies, the maximum subsidy for Type 2 research projects should not exceed NT$500,000 in principle.
3. Type 3 research project funding shall be the same as the allied universities and determined based on the contents of the research projects. |

Application qualifications:
- Full-time faculty members and research fellows of NTU who served as the principal investigator of at least one NSTC research project.
- International scholars recruited by NTU, such as Yushan Scholars for short-term exchange, Distinguished Chair Professors for Research, and Distinguished Chair Professors, or other exceptional international scholars with equivalent qualifications may apply for Type 1 research projects. A faculty member or research fellow of NTU must serve as the co-principal investigator.
